How to wash Human Hair Extensions is a crucial skill that needs to be incorporated into your extensions aftercare routine. Although washing hair extensions is not a tricky task a few simple guidelines should be followed in order to successfully cleanse, refresh and promote the lifespan of your extensions. These rules are applicable to all methods of human hair extensions.

How To Wash Human Hair Extensions

Step 1 – Brush Your Hair Thoroughly.

Use a Tangle Tamer or Hair Extensions Loop Brush to brush your hair throughout. Start by brushing your hair from the ends and work up the hair as the tangles are removed. Brushing Human Hair Extensions before washing will allow for easier detangling after washing, it will also allow for Shampoo and Conditioner to permeate the hair more successfully.

Step 2 – Always Wash Human Hair Extensions In The Shower.

Where you wash your hair is just as important as the products you use, this may sound silly but we’ll explain why. Washing hair under running water that flows in the same direction of your hair will keep your hair smooth and prevent tangling. Washing hair in the bath can cause a ‘swishing’ movement that could cause hair extension strands to loop over each other and become tangled. If you don’t have a shower at home it is definitely worth investing in a shower attachment for your bath. This is particularly important for Pre-Bonded and Nano Ring Hair Extensions.

Step 3 – Choose The Correct Products.

The products you use on your Human Hair Extensions have a significant impact on their condition. If you find your hair extensions becoming dry, tangling or difficult to manage; these all signify a lack of product or the wrong products being used. Invest in great salon quality products designed to promote the life span of your hair extensions. Secret Hair Extensions have a full range of aftercare products including Shampoo, Conditioners, Hair Treatments and more.

Step 4 – Lather And Rinse.

After wetting the hair under running water, lather your hair with a 50p sized amount of shampoo. Smooth through the hair from the roots down. Do not be tempted to scrub the hair in circular motions, this way the bonds are not aggravated or looped over one another. To rinse, stand under the running water and the product will wash away. Run your fingers through the hair to make sure all of the shampoo is removed.

Conditioner only needs to be applied to the Mid Lengths and Ends of the hair, this is to avoid lubricating the Ring/Bonds. Comb a 50p sized amount of conditioner through the hair with your fingers, this will allow the conditioner to permeate all of the hair. Rinse as previously instructed.

Step 5 – Squeeze Out The Excess Water

Use a towel to gently squeeze out any excess water. Do not rub vigorously with a towel. Simply hold your hair extensions in a clean towel and squeeze gently.
